Join the Public Health Law Center for a 30-minute webinar, led by Lead Staff Attorney Esther Agbaje, on how recent Supreme Court rulings are reshaping administrative law and what this means for public health policy and regulation.  In this webinar, we delve into the 2024 landmark cases of Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo, Corner Post v. Board of Governors, and SEC v. Jarkesy, each of which has significantly curtailed agency authority. These decisions mark a departure from the long-standing influence of Chevron deference by empowering courts – rather than agencies – to interpret ambiguous statutes independently and to impose new constraints on regulatory bodies.

Our webinar will briefly explore the implications of these rulings on tobacco control policy, the potential for increased litigation, and the challenges agencies face in this new era of judicial oversight. We will explain how public health advocates can leverage these changes to push for more rigorous enforcement of health regulations and hold agencies accountable. This session will be helpful for legal professionals, policymakers, and public health advocates navigating the evolving interplay between regulatory agencies and the judiciary.
