At both federal and state levels, commercial tobacco control policy is generally driven by the legislative and executive branches of government. But the judiciary fulfills an important role, too. Civil litigation is frequently used as a tool by public health advocates, consumers, and industry alike to effect change in how the law of tobacco control impacts our lives. In this hour-long webinar, Public Health Law Center staff attorneys will provide an overview of our federal and state court systems while exploring, through the lens of commercial tobacco control law, common types of lawsuits and their outcomes, the life cycle and procedural requirements of a case, and the challenges inherent in using and relying upon litigation as a force for good or ill.

Pending approval for CLE credit.
