On September 21, 2015, the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) released an updated recommendation regarding tobacco cessation treatment, affirming the importance of a comprehensive cessation benefit in improving health. Although more than 51 million Americans have successfully quit smoking and former smokers now outnumber current smokers in the U.S., many tobacco users face barriers in accessing cessation treatments that are covered by insurance as a preventive service. This webinar addresses the need for clarity on what tobacco cessation treatments are covered under different types of insurance, the significance of the USPSTF recommendation and how it relates to insurance coverage policy, and strategies for national, state and local groups in light of this recommendation. Speakers are Erika Sward, Assistant Vice President, National Advocacy; Anne DiGiulio, Manager, Lung Health Policy; and Shelly Kiser, Director of Advocacy in Ohio and Michigan, all from the American Lung Association. The moderator is Kerry Cork, Staff Attorney, Tobacco Control Legal Consortium.
