Eliminating low-priced tobacco products is an important tobacco prevention and public health tool. The lower that tobacco products are priced in a community, the higher the likelihood that more members of that community will use those products and develop nicotine addiction. It is not a coincidence that tobacco products are often the cheapest in neighborhoods with the lowest income levels. This helps perpetuate the tobacco industry’s hold in targeted communities.
During this 45-minute webinar, the Public Health Law Center will present on the various methods used by the tobacco industry to reduce prices and how states and local governments can counter them and adopt policies that increase the cost of purchasing tobacco products to the consumer with the goal of furthering public health.
